A grid-connected solar system is a great way to do your part for the environment. Generating power on your roof will make you far more conscious of the power you are using, which can only help remind you to turn off that extra light. Not to mention that producing your own power will reduce your electricity bill! In addition this system will allow you to have backup power available when power outages occur.
The Outback Grid Intertie Series inverters are similar to their off-grid cousins with the ability to act as a battery charger, automatic transfer switch and DC/AC inverter. This makes these units complete power systems capable of providing power to your house when the utility fails. The GVFX3648 is used in this system and is a 3600 watt inverter operating on 48 Volts (nominal). The inverter comes prewired on a steel enclosure with the AC and DC disconnect breakers.
These systems are fairly new in Canada and you will have to get in touch with your local utility to find out if they will allow you to interconnect and what they would like to see in the way of protection and approvals. BC Hydro is fully setup to handle these systems.
